Music Matters

Music Matters! is our award-winning in-school educational outreach program for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Musicians from the Illinois Symphony Orchestra visit schools throughout Central Illinois to showcase their instruments, teach students about the orchestra, teach musical concepts, demonstrate and perform their instruments. This past season, orchestra members even taught and shared music with students from other countries!

The ISO's goal is to visit 20 schools in Bloomington-Normal and Springfield, including public, private, and rural schools. These 30-minute workshops, varied by grade level, engage students in the world of classical music by providing them the opportunity to experience professional musicians, learn musical concepts, hear a variety of music and allow for them to ask questions about the music, instruments, and musicians. Through these workshops, the ISO aims to reach schools that may be able to attend the annual Concerts for Kids performances featuring the entire symphony orchestra.

For more information or to sign up for participation in this program, please contact Orchestra Manager Chet Lord-Remmert at 217.522.2838 Ext 14 or clordremmert@ilsymphony.org.
